Making Bags- Green Day

For our national green day project we had to design and make a bag out of recycled materials. We used needles and thread to sew our bags together then we used fabric pens to actually design our bags with colour. We chose a name for our bags and we could not use another brand name. One of the hardest parts was sewing on the belt because it's thicker material. C.O & A.W

THE AD CAMPAIGN

We all had to make our own bag with our recyled materials. Then we did a poster to advertise our bags. then we had a script for a tv ad. then we practised it. Then we had to draw our logo, stick in a picture of our bags and write our slogan. Then we filmed our tv ad for tomorow. by T.S  C.B  H.W.L

Class Assembly

In our assembly we read a story called ‘The Night Shimmy’. It’s about a boy called Eric who does not like to talk. So his secret friend, (The Night Shimmy) talks for him. Then in the end he speaks to a girl called Marcia, who is nice to him.

We read this story out then we asked everyone if they could see the meaning in the story, and we came up with our own. Here are some of ours:
Change is a good thing,
Change is better when you have people supporting you,
If you don’t speak you won’t get much in life.

Building Bridges

Class nine’s Bridges
In DT class 9 have been making bridges.
Here is our success criteria:
.The bridge must hold 200g.
. It has to be able to span the width as a school tray.
. It has to be free standing which means you can’t hold it.
. It has to be between 15-20cm wide.

There were 6 different types of bridges
Suspension
Arch
Truss
Beam
Cantilever
Cable-stayed

The maxim weight that our bridges could hold was 8kg 250g.THAT IS HEAVY!
My bridge could hold 6kg and my bridge could hold 8kg 250g.
My bridge was made completely out of card and glue oh and don’t forget the lollypop sticks !!!!!

River Trip

Our Trip To Sutton Park

When we went to Sutton Park, we investigated how long it would take us to get a ping pong ball from 1 cone to another in the water. The cones were 5m apart. Then we had to get 3 big rocks from different parts of the river and measure their width and length. And we had to measure how wide the river was bank to bank. When we had found all our information we had to draw a picture with the bank and all the things around it which was like plants and trees and then we had to draw how the floor of the river goes with the slope down and then back up again. We had loads of fun doing it. It was fun and everyone enjoyed it and I would love to go again in the future.  CB & SH

When we got to Sutton Park we went into a kind of woods area and we had to write a piece of descriptive writing about the woods and I did an acrostic poem and it went like this
T rees everywhere trapping me in a nature cell,
H ow am I getting out of this creepy forest,
E very where there are screams of wimpy girls,

S houting screaming at the scare of the 8 legged creepers,
P oo from animals all over the floor,
O h no I just stepped in horrible pongy poo,
O ww that hurt! An ant bit me,
K im is stuck in that tree! Oww he fell on me,
Y ou need to get help and I need a wee,

F reaky creepy crawlies biting me,
O ww Kim your squishing me,
Right that’s it I’m getting out of here
E ww a rat just pooped on me,
Silly me it was just a dream,
That’s’s a relif. By T.S

Shop for Schools

Some people from our class took part in an art project and sold their art work at the mall in Sutton Coldfield, they really enjoyed it. H.J

We made it by scrunching up tissue paper on a canvas or card. Then we designed it in the style of artist Vicky France and sold it. A.W
To get the main effect of the border style we used glue guns, we had to use gloves though we could also make a mesh. After we had the border done we would apply colour by getting a sponge and dabbing it over the glue. J.S

The Investigators

This is a picture of us when we  did an investigation about a mysterious object which was in our class room. We described what it looked like and we guessed what it could be. In the end it was a coconut with like carpet material in it. KV & DC

Bridge Making

Today class 9 have been researching different types of bridges. This afternoon they have split into groups to design their own bridge.

The design specifications:
  • the bridge must hold at least 100g
  • it must span the width of a school dinner tray
  • it must be free standing (meaning you can't hold it or support it to help it balance)
  • it must be between 15-20cm wide
On Monday class 9 will be building and testing their bridges.

Weekend Challenge
Over the weekend you need to collect material for your bridge. You also need to research the best way to build it. Keep us posted on how it is all going.

Good luck - Ms Turner
